Our Historic Journey

January 1914 - Current

Moses Chapel Primitive Baptist Church was founded under the late Elder George Moore in January of 1914. Originally, services were held in the home of the late brother Jessie Washington with a total of nine members.  Included in this journey six members from Big Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church joined forces with Moses Chapel increasing the total to fifteen members.

Initially, there were three ordained Deacons: Shelby Hammonds, Boast Edward and Henry Robinson.

Four Mothers:  Effie Moore, Nannie Hammonds,  Carrie Binford and George Ann Washington.

Four Ordained Ministers:  Elder Lucien Fletcher, Elder James Malone, Elder Melvin Burks, and Elder Elmoe Jackson.

Twenty Seven years later (1941)  Elder George Moore's health failed and he gained his wings.  In July 1942 God assigned Elder Joe Pendleton as the shepherd of Moses Chapel and during his tenure many souls were added to the church. In 1966 Moses Chapel was rebuilt for the third time as Elder Pendleton continued to serve pastor.  In 1970 Elder George Franklin served as Pastor and Elder Robert Leslie as Associate Pastor while the flock continued to flourish. Upon Elder Franklin's resignation; Elder Fred Moore was assigned as the fourth pastor.  Elder Fred Moore later resigned and Elder James E. Smith served as interim pastor. Elder Moore later returned, in the role of pastor with a vision given to him by God to build a new edifice. In September of 1991 Elder Leroy Laughinghouse was called to serve as Pastor on November 23, 1992. On October 27, 1996, by the Grace of God, Elder Laughinghouse led a march of faithful followers from the old location of 191 Mose Chapel Road to the current location; birthing the Vision of Elder Fred Moore became a Reality.   On September 28, 2003 Elder Joe L. Hereford was assigned as the Shepherd. Pastor Hereford continues to serve humbly and faithfully.
